Military vets and Volunteers

Several tax benefits available to military veterans and volunteers are often overlooked, including income and property tax relief. Check out some of these benefits to see if you qualify.

NYS Tax Credit for Volunteer Firefighters and Ambulance Workers

If you volunteer within the State of New York as either a firefighter or ambulance worker don't forget to file Form IT-245 which can provide up to a $200 REFUNDABLE tax credit against your state tax liability. This means that if you are entitled to a refund it will be increased by $200, or if you owe tax it will be decreased by that amount.

Property Tax Relief for military veterans, certain NYS volunteers, senior citizens and others.

Getting property tax relief, whether through a reduction by challenging your assessment or by claiming entitlement benefits requires that you act before a deadline each year. Be sure to call you local property tax assessor to determine the calendar deadlines for claiming these benefits. Click on the title above to read more.
