Form Fit and Function Replacements for Obsolete Power Supplies available from Powerstax

11 December 2018 by Press Officer

Form Fit and Function Replacements Powerstax, one of Europe’s leading value-added and industrial power solutions manufacturers, can offer users of legacy equipment and those involved with repair or refurbishment of critical or capital systems form-fit-and-function replacement power supplies incorporating the latest technology and providing major increases in reliability and efficiency.

A recent example involved the recommissioning of an ion implant system used in semiconductor device fabrication. Replacing the over 20-year-old power supplies without the need to modify the system chassis or control systems required a custom designed power supply.

The replacement product supplied made use of a modern high efficiency AC-DC “brick” module with an additional current limit circuit and an external output voltage adjustment circuit via a 10-turn potentiometer fitted to the front plate to allow it to function exactly as the original power supply. The new power supply has a 90-253 VAC universal input allowing the original input voltage select link to be removed and provides an output of 48VDC @ 7.5A.

Chief Executive Officer of Powerstax, Tim Worley comments “We have many years’ experience of manufacturing custom and added value power conversion products. Offering this expertise to users of legacy systems by providing form-fit-and-function replacement power supplies ensures critical and capital equipment can continue in service for many more years improving ROI and avoiding unnecessary replacement costs.”

Powerstax designs and manufactures an extensive range of standard, value-added and custom AC and DC power solutions for a broad range of fixed and mobile applications including hot-swap front-end AC-DC bulk power, DC-DC converter bricks and modules and programmable, modular, rack mounted power supplies. Their Drake® range of transformer rectifiers offer output currents to 5,000A and output power up to 1000kVA and beyond. Power solutions are available for harsh (marine, offshore, desert) and hazardous (Zone 1 and Zone 2) environments and can be oil, air or water cooled and can be sealed up to IP65 if the environment dictates with purge and pressure systems and heat exchangers incorporated if required

The main markets served by Powerstax include high-end industrial, defence, vehicle and transportation, defence and avionics, impressed current cathodic protection, water treatment, test, measurement and control and medical equipment.

Powerstax invests in new product development with appointment of a new Design Engineer

27 August 2018 by Press Officer

new product development Powerstax one of Europe’s leading value-added and industrial power solutions manufacturers, has recruited a new Design Engineer, Harit Pokharel, at their research and development and manufacturing facility in Wickford, Essex, where he will work on switched mode and transformer rectifier products.

Harit recently completed his Masters in Electrical Power Engineering from University of Greenwich with Distinction.

“I really appreciated the warm welcome I received from everyone at Powerstax,” Harit comments “I am proud to be starting my career at a company where I can be involved in the complete design cycle from concept through design, manufacture and test.”

Harit has special interest in renewable energy and heat dissipation management, he continues “If we can reduce the heat dissipation from power units further through better design then higher efficiency products result which is vital for the future.”

In his spare time he practices photography, loves swimming, camping and, trekking. Having attended the highly regarded Budhanilkantha School in Nepal, where English has been the official language of instruction since 1983, he has recently been chosen as President of  SEBS-UK (Society of Ex-Budhanilkantha Students), a volunteer organization, to support school alumni living within the UK and Europe for the next 2 years.

Chief Executive Officer of Powerstax, Tim Worley says “We are very pleased to welcome Harit to our design team. We are continually investing in our capabilities in order to offer our existing customers the best possible service while developing new power conversion solutions and expanding our product range.”

Replacements and alternatives for legacy Kingshill Linear Power Supplies available from Powerstax

31 July 2018 by Press Officer

A single source to extend the life of obsolete power supplies

Kingshill Linear Power SuppliesReplacements and alternatives for legacy Kingshill linear power supplies are available from Powerstax, one of Europe’s leading value-added and industrial power solutions manufacturers. For many years UK manufacturer Kingshill made a very large number of a wide variety of their very popular linear power supplies commonly used in high reliability industrial, test and measurement and instrumentation systems.

These products are now supported by Powerstax who, in addition to a repair service, can offer direct replacement units in the event of repairs being uneconomic. Powerstax can also provide form-fit-and function replacements for discontinued items from Kingshill and other manufacturers. This practical, cost-effective alternative enables a quick and simple solution for replacement of existing Kingshill and other installations. Use of Powerstax replacement products helps to speed the selection process, minimise engineering disruption and reduce the large investment traditionally associated with a power supply re-design.

Tim Worley, CEO of Powerstax, comments, “We are well known for our support of Kingshill products and any kind of web search for them will send existing users to Powerstax. What isn’t so well known is that we have designed new form, fit and function versions where the circuitry is modernised but the metalwork and connectors are Kingshill standard. This is very good news for existing Kingshill customers with systems designed around their footprint and performance but also for any users of obsolete power supplies wishing to extend the life of other obsolete power supplies who now have the opportunity to come to Powerstax for a turnkey solution.”

Powerstax offers replacements and alternatives for Kingshill linear, regulated and un-regulated power supplies and other discontinued ranges including the U and W Series modular and cased un-regulated series power supplies with output power of 28W – 1600W. The Elite Series regulated series power supplies, modular cased 25W – 200W models. The L Series Open-Frame regulated series power supplies from 15W – 170W and the NS, NM, S, NTS, NTM, 3S, ST and TR Series high-specification regulated series modular power supplies with outputs from 10W – 1200W.
